Siegel Family Endowment Awards Constellations Center Funding to Support AP Computer Science Programming

Georgia Tech announced today that its Constellations Center for Equity in Computing has been awarded a three-year grant from Siegel Family Endowment (SFE).

“We are grateful for the support of the Siegel Family Endowment. Constellations cannot make computing education accessible to everyone alone, and we are looking forward to seeing the change that is made possible because of this partnership,” said Constellations Executive Director Charles Isbell.

The SFE investment will support Constellations’ program fellows and further develop Advanced Placement computer science curricula to be implemented in Georgia high schools and online.

“We’re excited to support Constellations as they bring high-quality computer science education programs to Atlanta Public Schools,” said Katy Knight, SFE deputy executive director. “Their collaborative approach and commitment to access for all students illustrates the type of innovative thinking that we aim to support in all of our work. We’re excited to see the program grow, and are certain Constellations will positively impact the next generation of students in Atlanta and beyond.”

Formed in December 2017, Constellations is a hub and national leader for research and advocacy at the intersection of educational equity and computing. The center is currently working with high school classes in six Atlanta Public Schools during the 2018-2019 school year. Constellations’ three fellows teach the AP Computer Science Principles course in collaboration with each classes’ teacher of record. Online AP computer science course materials for the teachers to use once the fellows have transitioned out of the classrooms are also being developed
